Mixing Bowls and Chalk Paint: Chair Reveal

This little chair found a home with me as an extra item when I purchased a corner dining bench off of craig's list. I have been wanting to try out the Annie Sloan chalk paint but thought I would give it a try and be a little thrifty by making my own . So I did.

I found this grey paint at Ace to make up my mixture and I was pleased with how it turned out. The coverage was wonderful. It went on so smooth and covered the chair well. No priming or sanding involved at all!

I did do two coats of this paint mixture and the best part was that it dried so fast that I immediately put the second coat on.

After the paint was applied I wanted to add something more to this simple plain chair. I went to my paint bag and pulled out my brushes and acrylic paint. First I practiced over and over again on a palette to get the pattern I wanted on the chair. A lot of trial and error here. Finally I put the white brush to the chair and made a custom pattern on it. It isn't perfect but it has the vintage feel in that I know the old timers didn't have a cricket or stencil machine to quickly print out an image to transfer. So I was fine with the imperfect brush strokes. It will get better with time.

I also put a design on the seat of the chair. I used one of  my kitchen mixing bowls to trace the circle on the seat with the brush.

And lastly I put a number mark on the back. After all my paint had dried I distressed and waxed the piece. Again the dry time was fast. So I am now sitting on it in my  office! Just my style of paint. I think I'll be using this mixture again!

Have a Grand Weekend Everyone!

  1. Hey Sadie! What did you use to make the paint a "chalkboard paint"? Gorgeous color. I love that it has the blue undertones.

    1. Hi Tia! So glad to hear from you. My chalk paint recipe is a work in progress. I am doing a tutorial on it in the near future. As for the color I'm not sure what it is called because I found it as a mis-mix on discount at a paint store. It is a grey and it is neat because in certain lights you can see a blue tone to it! Find Company of 7 Designs on Facebook and message me your address or e-mail it to me. I will send you some helpful info if you want to try out the chalk paint. Thanks for checking out the blog friend!
